SONG LOUNGE UNEARTHED

MONDAY 23 JULY 2012

Song Lounge Unearthed is a hugely exciting showcase with many new singers bursting onto the scene. With some singers never having played a ‘show’ before other than the odd open mic night, this selection is a pick of the talent in WA that North Street Music believes could be the ones to watch over the next few years.  Come along and discover a new star being born.

Cléo

Cléo is a young singer/songwriter who grew up in the English countryside, where she spent her days dreaming away and teaching herself to sing and play guitar. Emily J

www.emilyj.org

Emily J is an Australian pop/folk singer song writer from country Western Australia. Her debut single, “Ghost” was recently described by Phil Brooks of Independent Music News (UK) as “breathy vocals and gently strummed guitar and some vibes that leads into an anthemic chorus that gently tugs at the heart. She sounds a fragile thing, young Emily, her voice layered over the slightly restrained percussion and guitars.” Emily has recently released her first EP, “Dedications” (recorded in London, UK and Fremantle, AU), following the positive reception of her single and music video “Ghost”, which was released in December 2011. Emily continues to receive very positive reviews and feedback for her work and she has been steadily growing a loyal fan base across the United Kingdom and Australia. Characterised by her down to earth enthusiasm, Emily provides a fresh approach to independent music in Western Australia.

Keeping the same passion and intensity he had as The Bullet Holes’ front man, Owen Hopwood has shed the fuzzed out sounds of the three-piece for something simpler. His new stripped back approach draws attention to what has always been at the heart of it: honest, uncompromising songwriting.
