Sensational Start to Song Lounge 2013! – Mon 18th Feb

Song Lounge, North Street Music’s flagship singer/songwriter showcase is back for 2013 with a bang! We start the year with an incredible line-up with familiar faces and a new one! Ricky Green was heard busking on the street in Freo by NSM Director, Bourby Webster, and got snapped up to showcase his talent at Song Lounge for the first year. David Lazarus, the young prodigy is back, and with the wonderful Minky G and Helen Shanahan (the latter fresh from winning the folk category at an international song writing competition at the end of 2012) the show promises to be the best of what Song Lounge can offer.

Ricky Green is Folk/Indie singer from the SW coastal region of W.A. His oceanic up-bringing has heavily influenced his music and can be felt through his whimsical guitar riffs and soulful lyrics. Having spent most of 2012 touring Western Australia and recording his debut EP, Ricky is now heading overseas for most of 2013 to work on his debut Album. With his catchy songs and a personality to light up any stage, Ricky is not one to miss.

With his curly hair and warm pure vocals, singer-songwriter David Lazarus is one of Australia’s exciting young artists. His catchy beachside acoustic-pop-rock tunes take one on a true journey, exploring the everyday joys of life, love and the simple pleasures we encounter. With roots in South Africa and brought up among five sisters, Davids originality comes out through his maturity and simplicity. Having just released his debut album, appeared on Channel 7′s telethon, as well as supported Australia’s Got Talent winners Justice Crew in concert, there is no doubt that a very exciting career lies ahead for the young musician.

2013 is shaping up to be a busy year for Perth’s jazzy-pop duo Minky G and Rosco. On the back of a UK tour last year, and a packed out EP launch at the Ellington, the pair are now heading around the country for a heap of gigs in Sydney, Melbourne and across WA. The pair combine Minky G’s soulful and quirky vocals with some iconic guitar playing from Rosco, making for a fun and memorable live show. “Minky G delivers brilliant songwriting and Rosco’s energetic guitar playing complement her. Helen Shanahan

Helen Shanahan is a singer/songwriter from Perth, WA. Helen’s songs ride the joys and sorrows of love and life and draw the listener into an articulate and heartfelt world of story, melody and guitar, through her eyes.

Helen’s song ‘ He Says’ was nominated in the 2010 Western Australian Music Industry ‘Song of the Year’ competition and she has recently supported Australian group ‘The Basement Birds’ whose members include Kav Temperly (Eskimo Joe), Josh Pyke, Kevin Mitchell (Bob Evans) and Steve Parkin. She has also been privileged to supported UK artist Passenger in 2010, and Matt Corby in 2011 in his secret garden shows around Perth.

Her song “Driftwood” has just won the folk category in the Song of the Year competition, which coincided with her debut album release of “Driftwood” at the Fly By Night Club in Fremantle on October 5th.
