Saxophone

Michael Bednall is an emerging young saxophonist from Perth, and is currently in his final year of a Bachelor of Music (Classical) at WAAPA studying under Dr Matthew Styles. A keen advocate of contemporary music, Michael has already premiered several works for saxophone in solo and chamber settings and is currently writing and commissioning new works by Western Australian composers, utilizing the full gamut of extended techniques and combining them with live electronics to form a recital at the World Saxophone Congress in Strasbourg, France, July 2015. Michael regularly performs in and around Perth as a soloist and in ensembles such as The Maverick Saxophone Quartet, Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, Fremantle Symphony Orchestra, Faith Court Orchestra, Oz Big Band and Basement sax.

Mike Burns occupies a unique position in Western Australia as songwriter, composer, ethnomusicologist and instrumentalist. He writes and plays music in a distinct way, and is deeply imbedded in his communities. Following the eclectic path of the 60s he began music studies in 1969 in Flute, Guitar, Composition and World Music at the Canberra School of Music, taking further degrees in Western Australia and a Masters at the University of New England. At the same time as releasing his debut cassette album “Melange” (1986) bringing classical, rock and jazz styling’s together, he conducted extensive research into Pilbara Aboriginal music, taught and studied Javanese Gamelan and composed Australia’s first Aboriginal Opera “My Spiritual Dreaming” (1993). His work in rock, metal, blues and soul led to his 1999 CD release “Do Me the Kindness”. In Lisbon 2009 he began studies in Fado, which has left its influence in much of his recent work. He performs and writes music for plays and festival events regularly. Since 2013 he has begun a new series of works with poets, string quartet, and winds

A duo of cello and piano formed by two friends Anna Sarcich (cello) and Mia Brine (piano) through their love of music, playing and fun. Separately, they are two in demand freelance musicians playing in Musicals (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Annie, Jersey Boys to name a few), orchestras (WASO, PSO, PCO), rock bands and chamber groups around Perth and Australia. Together they are a duo exploring the salon repertoire for cello and piano, bringing to life old favourites and new music alike.
