Chamber Jam @ The Ellington is a night of chamber music in Perth (or anywhere for that matter) like no other. Here at North Street Music we’ve been showcasing three outstanding ensembles performing in one of Perth’s most intimate live music venues for nearly seven years! The first Chamber Jam for 2015 kicks off an exciting year of fresh talent and performances by Perth’s finest musicians. This event is one of the most understated evenings at The Ellington on the last Monday of each month. Join us to kick off 2015 with three wonderful groups:

Four & Six – violin / guitarFourandSix

Australian violinist Gillian Catlow and Luxembourg-born Dutch guitarist Charles Hoernemann began their musical partnership as Four on Six in 2010. Their diverse and ever-expanding repertoire includes Gypsy Jazz, Brazilian Choro, Tango, Bossa Nova, Samba, Waltz Musette, compositions from Scandinavia, Beatles and tunes from the Great American Songbook. In short, if they love it, they play it!

Ryan Davies & Tara John – piano duo

Pianists Ryan Davies and Tara John have been performing together for many years, exploring the breadth of the piano duo repertoire. Both graduates of the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (studying under Anna Sleptsova), they have gained much experience performing as recital and concerto soloists, chamber musicians, orchestral musicians and accompanists. Ryan was recently the repetiteur for OperaBox’s production of Anna Bolena, and Tara performs regularly with Joni in the Moon. Together they will present an eclectic selection of works for piano four-hands, as well as solo works from the 20th century.

Fado Bica – Portugese guitara / flute and sax / guitar

Fado Bica Pascal (1) copy

Fado Bica is WA’s leading Portuguese music group, playing traditional and new Fado, jazz and original compositions. Led by Mike Burns on Portuguese guitara, the group features Lucas van Berkel on flute and saxes and Peter Altmeier on guitar. With Manoli Vouyoucalos on bass, we are completing a CD which should be ready in April. As with all Fado, the music may be pretty, bright, gentle or virtuosic, but always full of saudade, that magical element that joins it to samba, bossa and classics of recent centuries. Fado Bica takes you on a journey of melody, improvisation and jangling grooves.

PandiyaPandiya – Piano, Violin, Percussion

Pandiya is a young and exciting folk group, just breaking onto the folk festival circuit. The trio mixes the genres of Klezmer and Tango, taking influence from the Gypsy Kings and The Saruzu Quartet. The musicians first met in rehearsals for a musical and have been making music together ever since. You’ll find Pandiya performing at functions and events around Perth.
Pandiya is comprised of Joe Ryan (piano), Katie Thomas (percussion) and Stuart Robertson (violin).
