WA’s biggest song competition now open!

Presented by WAM, Song Of The Year is WA’s most prestigious songwriting competition, this year offering more than$35,000 worth of prizes. Entries to WAM Song Of The Year 2013 are now open until July 22, giving Western Australian songwriters of all ages and levels of experience less than 2 months to enter their original songs in 16 different categories.With thanks to our sponsors and with more to be revealed soon, WAM is proud to announce that this year’s Grand Prizewinner will already walk away with $3,000 cash; recording time at the hit-making Albert Studios in Sydney; the opportunity for a publishing deal with Perfect Pitch Publishing; an online music course valued at $1,500 courtesy of Berkleemusic; one mastering and mentoring session with producer/engineer James Hewgill; 500 CDs pressed by DiskBank; a RØDE Microphonespackage; the opportunity to perform at the 2014 AGWA Nights Last Hurrah! as part of the MoMA exhibition series; the opportunity to perform at the 2014 WAMi Festival in Perth in November; and the inclusion of the winning song in the 2014 Kiss My WAMi compilation.Category winners will take home $500 cash, one day of recording with one of our Studio Partners and more prizes ranging from performance opportunities at festivals and venues, sound engineering mentoring sessions, inclusion in the Music Feedback compilation, online video interviews plus more, and all thanks to our Category Sponsors and additional Prize Donors.Our independent jury of local, national and international experts will anonymously evaluate all entries throughout August.  All the nominees will be announced mid-September and all category winners and the Grand Prize winner will be made public at theAwards Night in October during Mental Health Week.

WAM Song Of The Year has been around for 24 years and WAM are proud to announce that the Mental Health Commission of WAis once again the presentation partner for the competition and the Mentally Healthy category sponsor. This special category allows songwriters to share songs dealing with positive messages relating to mental health.
